I have to admit I haven’t listened to a lot of David Sanborn, but I went and looked him up to remind me. Yes…smooth jazz… well nothing essentially wrong with that, but not ‘jazz’ (to my mind) in the strictest sense of the word. I used to listen to a lot of Grover Washington but also not really ‘jazz’ but then what is? I like the idea that jazz can be whatever it damn well chooses to be. And there’s a place for everything in this big wide world. |
