I just saw a DVD called Keith Jarrett – The Art Of Improvisation on the EuroArts label. While not a concert film there are some wonderful performances (or portions thereof) and the audio (PCM Stereo) and video are very good. It’s full of enlightening interviews with Jarrett and many others (including Manfred Eicher, Gary Peacock, Jack DeJohnette and Chick Corea). The main program runs for 84 minutes plus 42 bonus minutes (primarily interviews). Great insight into the mindset and life of a fabulous pianist. There’s even a rare chance to hear him actually sing (as opposed to groan). Very enjoyable overall. More reviews available at Amazon. This is just my two bits. Anybody else have any recommendations? |
