    <body>The 8th Annual New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival will be held September 25-28 at indoor venues on the beachside with the exception of two.

The kick-off party will be held Thursday September 25 at the Om Bar &amp; Chill Lounge, 392 Flagler Avenue from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $ 15, and $ 20 the day of the event. This is a non-smoking affair with cigarette and cigar smoking allowed on the back patio. 

Music by the Thom Chambers Duo plus one free drink and free hors d'oeuvres and a few silent auction items for bid. Tickets available at the venue plus Gone Bonkers, Nejma's Boutique, Beachside Pack 'n Ship and The Pennysaver. There are 4 shows on Friday on Third Avenue at various locations from 5 pm to 1 am.

On Saturday the scene shifts to Flagler Avenue for 10 shows, also at various indoor venues from Noon to 10:30 pm. Also on the Avenue that day will the Gallery Group of Flagler Avenue's Art Walk from 10 am to 5 p.m. 

Plus, a special added attraction at the New Smyrna Beach Library, a free concert at 2 pm. sponsored by The Friends of the Library.

Sunday will have 3 events at various locations including a show at the Brannon Center at 2 pm. sponsored by The Canal Street Historic District.

Jazz festival merchandise, including this year's poster and t-shirt designed by Sandy Donn, is available at various locations.

Events are free Friday, Saturday and Sunday unless noted.

Gold Coast Jazz Society Announces 2008-2009 Season of Jazz 

Jazz up your life! The Gold Coast Jazz Society is planning to put a little jazz in your life with their 2008-09 season of jazz concerts. From living jazz legends to hot sultry jazz, the Gold Coast Jazz Society will deliver a pallet of jazz that includes the best of jazz classics to big band swing. Subscriptions are now available for all eight jazz concerts presented by the Society. Seven concerts will be held at the intimate Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, which is located at 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale beginning at 7:45 pm. The Holiday Jazz show will be presented in Parker Playhouse. Prior to each jazz show Stu Grant of WLVEs Sunday Jazz Brunch radio broadcast will conduct a pre-show Jazz Riff jazz talk prior to all concerts beginning at 7:00 pm. Full subscriptions and Jazz Sampler subscriptions are now available by calling the Gold Coast Jazz Society at 954-524-0805. 


Opening the season on October 15 will be local jazz favorite Bob Hoose And His Orchestra in a program that tips the hat to ole blue eyes. Bob Hoose And His Orchestra have gained a following as one of the hottest acts in the country today. Bob has wowed crowds throughout the country for years with his interpretations of the Great American Songbook. His Celebration of Sinatra is a show not to be missed! 


For those that love jazz vocals, youll love the jazz newcomer, Rachael Price as she goes Fallin for Jazz on November 12. Armed with a new recording contract, this dynamic young jazz vocalist has gone from Grammy Foundation honoree to being the youngest competitor at the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition. 


Our annual holiday jazz program on December 10 will take place at Parker Playhouse and will feature the legendary Four Freshmen. Created in 1948 at Butler University, the Four Freshmen are the longest lasting vocal jazz harmony group. With voices of some of the best young talent in the business, the newest group preserves the Freshmen sound, enhance it with their youth, vitality and talent. Dont miss this show full of holiday cheer. 


The January 14 concert, Tribute to Oscar Peterson, will feature pianist Oliver Jones, one of Canadas finest musicians. A frequent performer at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Joness career has intertwined with the proud history of jazz in his native Montreal. The thriving city produced Oscar Peterson, Olivers lifelong friend and continuing inspiration. Join us for Olivers personal tribute to the great jazz pianist, Oscar Peterson. 


If you love Dave Brubeck, come hear his talented offspring, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet in concert on February 11 in Brubeck x 2. This exciting jazz group has been playing together all their lives and if there is such a thing as born musicians, then the accomplished brothers definitely qualify. Dan on drums and Chris on trombone and bass have brought audiences to their feet all over the world. 


Put on your dancin shoes on March 11 for the Harry James Orchestra directed by Fred Radke in The Golden Age of Swing. If you are longing for the greatest popular music of the 20th century, you wont want to miss Fred Radke and the Harry James Orchestra. This renowned big band will feature the talented and beautiful vocalist, Gina Funes. 


Back by popular demand, the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band will perform with special guest artists, Jiggs Whigham and Shelly Berg for the April 1 concert. Jiggs Whigham is an internationally acclaimed trombonist, band leader and educator. Shelly Berg, is recognized as one of todays greatest jazz pianists and is the new Dean of the UM Frost School of Music. Come hear these two outstanding jazz musicians as they join forces with Eric Allison and the GCJS Band in a concert of great jazz standards and originals in A 'Bone, a Grand and a Band. 


Gold Coast Jazz will end the season on May 13 with the sultry song stylings of jazz singer, Nicole Henry. She is hailed as one of the most impressive live performers to personalize the Great American Songbook by Japan Times. Henry has power, grace and a stellar list of international performances and awards. Henry delivers a song in a genuine fashion and sings to sincerely inspire and touch hearts. You wont want to miss this enchanting young songstress in this final concert of the season.
