Topic: General Jazz Discussion / Little Known Long Time Jazz Artists A Dear friend of mine passed away in 1999 by the name of ” Mike ” Sabu ” Reed . He was a life long Jazz Drummer who started playing the Drums when he was 7 years old , and lived in the ” Inlet ” section of Atlantic City N.J. . Mike was friends on a personal basis , and sat in with such Jazz giants as Buddy Rich , Cris Columbo , Maynard Ferguson , Art Blakey , and Paul Chambers just to name a few . At one time in the late 1970’s he was an understudy of the Great Buddy Rich , and visited the White House with him during Jimmy Carters Presidentcy . Mike would often play gigs in Atlantic City , Philly , and New York , and was a driving force behind keeping the Music of Jazz in the minds of the public during a time when the Music was losing it’s popularity with mainstream Audiences .The reason I am posting this Thread is to get some feedback from people here who might of heard of him , and wonder if they believe as I , that he should be given the honor of being listed in the Official Jazz Encylopedia for his contributions to keeping this Great Music Alive . Feel free to Post your comments , if any , about this fine Musician …... |
