Topic: Non-Music Discussion / 300,000 quotations

I happened to see a website
containing 300,000 quotations.

Just go to http://thinkexist.com
for lots of pearls of wisdom :)

Topic: Audio & Video / About the MP3s I posted

Link to the tracks:

http://geocities.com/kingjohnson2003/apmtracks.html

About these tracks:

SOUND BITE: I have always been interested in Space
and our place in it. Wouldn’t it be great to meet
an alien? But not just any alien… one that is
FRIENDLY :)

RUNNING: Recorded with Skeebo Knight and Reggie Solomon
in Macon at the Grey Room. This was the first of two
sessions. Skeebo has Scleroderma now, a hideous disease
but his heart remains big and pure and true:
www.myspace.com/skeeboknight

EVERYTHING: My alter ego recorded this during a moment
of clarity. It might seem long and boring but Nobby
doesn’t care. How nice to be in the moment with the whole
Cosmos as a traveling companion. Of course the Cosmos
includes little things too like a spiderweb glistening
in the sunshine.

DAMN YANKEE: On the road with Anthony Papamichael
(in Vegas) with some great players assembled for a
giant audio convention. The horns were myself and
Karl Liberatore and Darian Emory.

FLOW: King Johnson (from the album “Hot Fish Laundry Mat”)
where I play a triple high ‘D’ in the middle. This track
moves from a jam band groove to a latin mambo and back
to a jam band groove. I think Oliver’s lyrics are about
healing.

GOODBYE: King Johnson (from the album “Hot Fish Laundry
Mat”) and I remember comparing the timbre of the trombone
to a Bill Watrous CD in the studio, trying to get the
right EQ. The track is about saying goodbye and as you
know, it’s hard to say goodbye.

WISE: King Johnson (from the album “Live ‘05”), one of
the few times I played cornet. The background development
behind the guitar solo makes me proud and Chris Long’s
lyrics are good as gold.

ADAMRAP: Wrote some rhymes just before the divorce in 2004
but did not get to record them until 2008 with Skeebo and
Marcus and Marshall in Macon at Muscadine. This was the
second of two sessions. Caution: I sound like a trombone
player trying to rap, ha ha.

Everything except furniture is out of the apartment now
waiting for new carpet tomorrow. Some of you know there
were broken pipes in the ceiling which made a big mess here
below. The good news is it forced me to clean house, LOL,
and I am enjoying all of this empty space. Call me
Mister Minimalist.

Yes, but consider the happy eyes and the bright smile of the congero or timbalero when he plays his drums not to mention the basic tumbao of the bass and the hummingbird who visited for the first time today. Drama, Vibration, Life.

Topic: Non-Music Discussion / Swing

( Don’t know where to put this )

...Everything has a swing to it. While waiting for something to come to me to type, my thumbs tapped the basic rhythm of the tune BRASIL on the side of the space bar of this aforementioned dusty keyboard (everything is dusty here). Everything has a swing to it. My 43 years have seen many musical styles. What a great life it has been so far. Everything has a swing to it. Now my teeth are chattering together to BRASIL. How lucky I am to be sensitive to rhythm. How lucky I am to have made it 43 years. Every sound and person and leaf and galaxy and ant and cobweb has a swing to it.

Hey Vic. Sorry for sounding negative. He is a kid who got lucky, that’s all. But he did a good job. I hope we can all be more positive. The job of a critic is to be honest. The job of a trombone player (me) is to hope for a gig, ha ha. Take care.

PS: To DMBLUV: I think
Moonglow works well as
a ballad or as a swing tune.

Tough question. Maybe
Miles / Gil Evans version
of J.J. Johnson’s LAMENT
from “Miles Ahead.” Well,
that would atleast be a
good place to start :)

Then click on MY GRAVATARS

Next be sure the email address
you use at jazz.com is the same
email address for your “gravatar”
(what an interesting word) that
shows up on the My Gravatar page.

You can also click on “Check this

more information. I am new to this
concept so maybe someone else can
embellish on the procedure.

I think it takes a while for changes
to take effect. Have a nice evening,
