Topic: Players & Bands / Trane: An Alternate Take Long words don’t make proper discernment. Just a lot to read. And it seems that all you’re saying is “I don’t like the way Coltrane played,” which as it happens isn’t heresy [as some people do think the same as you] and thus quite possibly didn’t need saying at all. Trying to balance bait – which is all this is – with “just one guy’s opinion” just made me feel like I’d spent three-and-a-half minutes that you’ll never give me back. I’m not actually a Coltrane fan either: but I’d be an idiot of the highest order to ignore the fact that his personal approach has influenced at least three generations of jazz musicians globally. And whatever shortcomings I may think he had, he’s the one who’s managed to touch people, globally. Which none of us have ever done, and are unlikely to do. |
